A new article in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/photography\/proof\/2018\/04\/indigenous-transgender-women-coffee-farmer-colombia\/?beta=true\">National Geographic<\/a><\/em> details the work of photographer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lenamucha.com\">Lena Mucha<\/a> as she follows these workers in the fields, the dormitories, and the city.<\/p>\n<p>As the article notes, many trans people don\u2019t find acceptance in their communities and are \u201coften punished or forced to leave their villages, even if they have families and children.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-note\" style=\"border-color:#e5e5a1\">\n<div class=\"su-note-inner su-clearfix\" style=\"background-color:#ffffb3;border-color:#fffff0;color:#333333\">\u201cI know in Colombia being transgender is quite heavy,\u201d Mucha says. \u201cIt\u2019s a very conservative country. LGBTQ [awareness] is something that\u2019s coming slowly and in the bigger cities, like Bogota. When it comes to villages and indigenous communities, they see it as a disease that comes from the white man. There\u2019s no understanding of why this can happen and that it\u2019s normal.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This has led many to find refuge working on coffee farms, where after the work is finished, they are able to \u201cdress as they\u2019d like during their free time without punishment or harassment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-132220\" src=\"http:\/\/sprudge.com\/file\/2018\/04\/trans-coffee-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mucha\u2019s work captures candid moments of these women\u2019s lives on and off the farm.
