It is the great catch 22 of finding employment in the coffee industry (any industry really). In order to get a job you need experience, but you can\u2019t get that experience without having a job. But the climb isn\u2019t over yet. Baristas who want to transition to other areas of the coffee industry can find themselves facing the same conundrum. But in a new event, the Houston Coffee Collective<\/a> is helping to close the gap between experience needed and experience possessed. Happening Tuesday, February 5th<\/sup>, Lift and Learn<\/a> is a free event teaching tech, barista, and brewing skills to coffee professionals and would-be professionals alike.<\/p>\n Taking place at GEVA Coffee<\/a>, Lift and Learn is a collaborative effort between the HCC, Urnex<\/a>, and Counter Culture<\/a> that will give attendees a chance to learn \u201ctech building preventative maintenance skills\u201d and \u201cbarista brewing and espresso skills.\u201d Led by Pit Crew<\/a>\u2019s Allen Leibowitz, Counter Culture\u2019s Eli Ramirez, and Blacksmith<\/a>\u2019s Antoine Franklin, folks can sign up for classes on steam wand rebuilds, grinder preventative maintenance, basic hand skills, and espresso fundamentals.<\/p>\n It\u2019s not all learning (and lifting) though, food trucks will be on-site for anyone who works up an appetite, and beer is being sponsored by Slow Pour Supply<\/a>. A hard day\u2019s works deserves a coldie, y\u2019know.<\/p>\n The event gets started at 6:00pm at GEVA Coffee on Tuesday, February 5th<\/sup>.
